Navman MY Series - looking out for you and the environmentProduct by: |
Navman conducted some research before creating their new MY Series range and the studies revealed that the public wanted to know more about how they could save on fuel consumption. “In spite of petrol prices coming down slightly, we know fuel efficiency is still important to most drivers. 82 per cent of people told us they would use this function. These days, people are not only interested to learn about how they can save money on fuel costs but they are also more aware of the environmental issues and realise their lifestyle choices can make a difference,” says Wendy Hammond, marketing director, Navman Australasia.
The new Navman MY Series features a host of functions and enhancements including a fuel efficiency mode that comes standard on all Navman MY Series models. So now the user is able to choose not only the “quickest”, “easiest” or “shortest” route option, but also the most fuel efficient one.
How this works essentially is, when you plug in a destination choosing the fuel efficiency route option, the Navman cleverly calculates the route that would allow you to travel at a steady speed and with the least possible stopping and starting, hence minimising fuel consumption. In the fuel efficiency mode, the Navman will generally aim for the shortest route and also pathways with the least amount of traffic lights. For that reason, freeways are generally favoured since you can travel along them quite steadily and usually without major interruptions. The fuel efficiency mode also tries to minimise the driver’s use of acceleration which consumes more petrol. As a result, the driver is more likely to be directed on a route that uses highways where a steady, even speed can be maintained. The route also tries to avoid unsealed roads (as you have to travel in low gear and hence consume more fuel) and finds routes that have the least roundabouts and corners as possible.
Helen and John Taylor, the world’s most fuel efficient couple, are huge supporters of Navman. They use a Navman when breaking various fuel efficient world record drives. They believe that using a Navman in general helps with fuel efficiency. “We use a NAVMAN to plan our routes and this is wonderful tool for saving fuel when you drive. Having the Navman means we are relaxed when driving because a calm voice tells us exactly where we need to go and we never get lost so we conserve energy,” says John Taylor.
The MY range which was released in late July includes four models, The MY30, MY50, MY55T and MY500XT. Other features of the range include, live traffic and weather updates standard across three of its models, the Australian-first inclusion of Lonely Planet and WCities destination guides on GPS and the ability to search Google from your sat-nav.
